For most us, the thought of moving makes us cringe when we start to think about packing. And not just the procrastinators out there, most of us will often put this off until the last minute which adds to the already stressful upcoming event...moving. Often time we will end up throwing things in boxes carelessly and unorganized just to get it done. When this happens, things can get lost or broken.

Often times the moving company you hire offers packing service which makes it convenient and quick.
They have a crew, equipment and procedures to pack you properly.
Following best packing procedures, your items are less likely to get damaged, especially during transit.
The Cons:
Increased cost. Time for the crew is added for the packing plus any supplies used, boxes, bubble wrap, tape, etc.
Lack of control. Even though they are trained to properly pack your items, they may not organize your items the way you want. This may add some frustration when it is time to unpack.
Trusting the packers. Some people just are not comfortable letting strangers sort through and pack up their prized possessions.
Pack it Yourself
The Pros:
Lower costs. Besides purchasing packing materials, it is your time (and friends, family or coworkers time).
You have control. If this is your personality trait then you might need to pack yourself. Or, maybe you can divide and conquer, pack ahead of time the items you hold near and dear and leave the rest for the movers...just a thought.

Not packed properly. Leads to possible broken items.
Movers not liable. Movers are not liable for broken items in boxes they did not pack. (Note: This doesn't apply if you hire a separate packing service from your moving company).
